Gravity Ravages

This painting was created for an exhibit of paintings by members of the Art League of Rhode Island depicting the theme of Water: Beneath the Surface. The unframed canvas, 36 x 12 inches was painted while tilted to allow for gravity to cause the watercolor inks to slowly descend as would water drain into the ground. Torn pieces of watercolor paper was splatter painted, dried, allowed to flutter onto the surface and is held in place with acrylic fluid medium. Long-leaf pine needles and other dried yard debris followed the pull of the wet material - pigmented inks and thin watercolor, yard debris, paper strips collaged onto the canvas staining in streaks. Plant debris was collected locally, collaged at the lowest part of the canvas. The call for art suggested the work suggest or describe forces of nature to the theme - Water - Beneath the Surface, hence: Gravity Ravages
