I am a Flower (Power Mask) Foxglove

Composite Photograph, Archival Inkjet on Museum Rag
40x30, Limited Editions of 20
2018

In my work, flowers are symbols that represent women, our humanity, ideas of sacredness, resiliency; how we are connected and reflected in nature.

These photocompositions contrast the delicacy and fragility of flowers presenting them as "power masks", symbolizing hidden strength and the inner warrior that dwells in each of us.

In psychology, the term “masking” applies to the everyday pretending we do to veil and protect our true selves. This series explores how we hide in plain view, revealing only what we desire others to know or believe about us.

The masks, created as symbols of empowerment convey another truth; true power, authenticity and honesty emerges only by removing our masks.

Reflecting our humanity, the flowers remind us to stand up, grow, be broken, imperfect but seen.
