He Strengthens Us in the Battle

30" x 40" Acrylic on Canvas,
©2023 Matt Philleo

In life, we go through so many struggles. During the trials, it helps to have friends lifting us up with prayers, encouraging words, and tangible help. In this painting of the ancient Amalekite Battle, Moses lifts his hands up, holding the staff of God's power. As long as his hands are outstretched, his connection to God remains strong, and the Israelites prevail over their enemies. But his arms grew tired, and so his companions, Aaron and Hur, held up his arms as he sat on a rock. The rock symbolizes Christ, our source of strength. The outstretched arms symbolize our recognition of our need for God, and a drawing in of His mercy and divine help. Sometimes, we grow weary in the battle, and need friends to help us. That's what this painting is all about: friends helping each other, to derive strength from God, to make it through the trial victoriously!
