Hollow Rock

2020, oil on canvas, 11" x 14"

The unique geological formation known as "Hollow Rock" is just offshore in Lake Superior between Hovland and the Canadian Border near Grand Portage, Minnesota. The hollow, a remnant of an old lava flow was formed by wave erosion and continues to change with the waves and the weather. In winter it is dusted with snow and adorned with glistening ice formations caused by wave action. On clear nights the heavens are on display and provide spectacular views of the Milky Way or the Northern Lights.
