A storm on April 19th and 20th, 2023, generated large waves on Lake Superior crashing against the cliffs near Shovel Point and Tettegouche State Park. Winds gusting in excess of 60 mph and waves reaching heights of up to 20 feet crashed against the North Shore encasing trees in ice.
