Snappy Cherry Snapdragon
I love this flower! The bloom is shaped so uniquely that when squeezed in its sides the snapdragons open to resemble a dragon's mouth. They were thought to protect people from witchcraft and aging. With the long stems with lots of blooms and a light, sweet fragrance it is no wonder why they are associated with grace and strength. Although this is an annual flower, is reseeds itself very easily appearing to be a perennial. In some climates the plant can survive the colder months but it is not typically a perennial.
There is color symbolism with the Snapdragon:
• Yellow: Symbolizes smiles, happiness, and good luck
• Red: Symbolizes love, passion, and positive energy
• White: Symbolizes purity, grace, innocence, and good magic
• Purple: Symbolizes spirituality and magical mysteries
• Orange: Symbolizes positive energy
My Snapdragon story –
Regardless of where I am, in my yard, a garden store or an arboretum I will stop and give the sweet flower a gentle squeeze. Of course, I will add the fun “Roar” as I do this. It’s an expected sound in my book. I am teaching my grandsons this snappy tradition every time we come across them.
As a child, I remember my parents planting Snapdragons in the front porch gardens. I remember the colors being very common like red, yellow, white, and orange but with today’s genetics the colors are an incredible mix of all of these and so many more. When I’m looking for seeds I look for the most vibrant and interesting color combinations!
