Cornell Dahlia

Stunning tight petals form a beautiful flower in watercolor on Strathmore watercolor paper. Is this bloom a small 2 inch pom-pom or a beautiful 6 inch bloom demanding space in a bouquet?
Fun Dahlia Facts:
• Dahlias were given as symbols of devotion, love, beauty, inner strength, creativity, elegance and dignity.
• Flowers come in an almost infinite range of hues, from creamy white and palest pink, to (almost) black, and everything in between.
• The Dahlia can range in size from petite 2-inch lollipop-style pompoms to giant 15-inch “dinner plates.” Most varieties grow 4 to 5 feet tall.

One of my favorite discoveries of the wonderful Dahlia is that they have become a fond home of sweet little tree frogs. They snuggle themselves between the petals where they stay cool moist and have easy meals eating bugs from their perch. Sweetness overload for this artist!

This beautiful flower was photographed by me before I painted it. To see these beautiful flowers in their garden home visit Cher's Garden in Madison Wisconsin.
