Fuchsia and Gold Dahlia

Vibrant Dahlia petals of Fuchsia and Gold watercolor on Strathmore watercolor paper.
Fun Facts:
• There are literally thousands of types of Dahlias
• Dahlias were once classified as a vegetable
• Dahlias are very popular in wedding bouquets for their beauty
and their meaning, a symbol of unity and everlasting love.
• The Dahlia tuber was one used as a blood sugar balancing
remedy before insulin because of their high sugar content.
• Out of the plethora of colors the Dahlia flower comes in there
are no blue Dahlias to date.

I spent an afternoon on a Dahlia farm in Madison WI, Cher’s Garde. I took tons of pictures of flowers of sizes from 1.5 inches in diameter to 16 inches! The contrast was amazing! The colors were enamoring, and the envelopment of having all those lovely flowers surrounding me made me feel giddy like a young girl laying in a dandelion field.
I purchased a few flowers that day. If I wasn’t on the beginning of a weekend getaway, I’d have bought a bouquet! They have quickly become one of my favorite flowers to have on my counter and in my paintings!
